Geiger Automotive USA Inc., which makes plastic automotive components for powertrain applications, is expanding its reach to Georgia, planning to move into a 48,000-square-foot facility in Suwanee.

The move was announced by the Georgia Department of Economic Development, which said Geiger could create 120 jobs in the next several years.

The new facility, which will be near Volkswagen AG's Chattanooga assembly plant, will support its growing customer base in the southeastern United States. The new jobs will be in injection molding, assembly and customer support.

Geiger molds components for cooling and brake systems that aid air and fluid management, as well as other functional under-the-hood components.

Geiger Automotive also has a facility in Gastonia, N.C. It is part of Geiger Automotive GmbH, which is headquartered in Murnau, Germany, and owned by Sanoh Industrial Co. Ltd., of Tokyo, Japan.

Geiger has three production facilities in Germany, one in the United States, and it is opening new facilities in Mexico and China in 2015. The company has more than 700 employees.

“Geiger Automotive's decision to locate its U.S. facility in Gwinnett County underscores not only our booming auto hub, but also the growth of German companies in Georgia,” said Chris Carr, Georgia Department of Economic Development commissioner, in a news release.
